The Last Caretaker Security Level: How to Raise It and Open Locked Doors

Your security level goes up by one for every 5 character levels: security level 2 at level 10, 3 at level 15 and 4 at level 20. A door with a shield and a number needs that security level, and you can check yours on the badge on your robot's left shoulder in the Inventory screen. Doors that need power or an authorization have other requirements.

The rule is cross-checked (B) from separate Steam threads and a community listing, but there is no official statement and it has not been checked in the current game. Reports about single doors are kept apart in the player reports box.

Security level: 3

Shield doors 1 to 3 open for you.

Security level 4 at character level 20 (5 to go).

A shield 3 door opens at character level 15.

Cross-checked (B): separate Steam threads from November 2025 to September 2026, including one after Update 5.5, give the same rule of one security level per 5 character levels. It has not been checked in the current game.

Read the Door: Four Kinds of Locks

Shield with a number: security level

A door with a small shield icon and a number on its frame needs that security level. Multiply the number by 5 to get the character level you need.

Lightning bolt: power

A door that needs power has a small lightning-bolt display on its frame, which turns green once the door has power.

Authorization panel: story

A door that needs an authorization has a panel beside it that says so, such as "Authorization required". Those doors open as the story moves on, not when you level up.

Security Level FAQ

What level do you need for security level 3?

Character level 15. Security level goes up by one for every 5 character levels: 2 at level 10, 3 at level 15 and 4 at level 20.

How do you increase your security level?

Level up your character. Players report one more security level for every 5 character levels, so the next one comes at the next multiple of 5.

How do you check your security level?

Open the Inventory screen and look at the shield badge on your robot's left shoulder. The number on it is your security level.

What does the shield with a number on a door mean?

It is the security level the door needs. Multiply the number by 5 to get the character level you need, so a shield 3 door opens at level 15.

Why won't a door open even though it has power?

Look for a second requirement. A shield with a number means a security level, a panel that says an authorization is required means the story has to move on first, and some doors need an access code from a nearby terminal.
