The Last Caretaker True Choices Quest: The Gold Standard and the Star Child
Short answer: True Choices starts once your Habitat Care committee is full. It sends you to Courier Sieve Node Facility (169, -2) for the Gold Standard, a golden sphere that is the Star Child memory. Then choose: recycle it in the room’s recycler, or load it into a Lazarus Rack to grow the Star Child, which needs no attribute targets, and launch it from Exodus Station.
Game version: Early Access, Update 6 (October 19, 2026); the quest came with Update 03 (March 18, 2026)
How True Choices Starts
How do you start True Choices?
It opens through the Council of Humanity. Fill the Habitat Care committee by sending humans with the right professions to space; the quest that follows marks a place on your map where the Star Child memory waits.
The Star Child questline came with Update 03, Curiosity Wakes, on March 18, 2026.

Where is the Gold Standard?
That place is Courier Sieve Node Facility, at 169, -2 on the in-game map.
Getting in means powering a control room, so bring the parts for a Typhoon wind turbine, a Medium Battery and cables. Angels fly around the facility and sharks swim close by, so a Jet Ski helps.
Inside, go down to the room with the cave-painting style drawing on the wall. The golden sphere there is the Gold Standard, the Star Child memory. Look out for Sweethearts to scan on the way.

The Two Choices
What are the two choices in True Choices?
Once you hold the Gold Standard, True Choices gives you two ways to finish: recycle it, or grow a “perfect” human from it and launch that human into space. You pick one.
For the story behind the choice, read the “Jacob’s stars” and Elias logs on a PECO terminal before you decide.
What happens if you recycle the Gold Standard?
To recycle it, use the recycler built into that room. The Caretaker hears that Lazarus now has a recipe for creating perfect humans, and you get some gold back from the sphere.

How do you grow the Star Child?
To grow it, take the sphere to the Lazarus Complex and load it as the memory item when you start a human. The rack then grows a Star Child instead of a normal profession.
The Star Child asks for no attribute targets: its profession screen shows a single “StarChild 0 / 1” slot that the golden sphere fills. Food only has to reach the growth minimums every human needs: 30 cm height, 20 kg weight and 10 years of life expectancy.

What happens when you launch the Star Child?
Then carry the grown Star Child to Exodus Station, load it into a rocket and launch. A voice message plays as it goes up.
The supply pod that comes back carries good loot, including a Quantum Crystal. Open the pod and take its loot: that is what finally completes the quest for some players.

If the Quest Will Not Clear
Why is True Choices still in my quest log?
The quest can stay in the log after either choice, with the Habitat Care committee still offering it. Opening the returned supply pod cleared it in one case; others found it later under completed quests.
