The Last Caretaker Anna: Who She Is, Her Story and Where to Meet Her

Anna Kurova is a little girl from the old world, the daughter of the scientist Dr. Olena Kurova. She built small robots out of broken toys at her mother’s workbench and talked about the stars, saying she wanted to visit one someday.

She fell ill as a child and died of it. Her grandmother’s notes, kept through 2094, the family’s last year on Earth, follow her from the diagnosis to the morning she slipped away, asking whether she would really become a star.

The game’s own answer is in the Anna Echo’s item text: it is a hologram of Anna as a child, rebuilt from behaviour patterns recovered in North Bastion, and not the original Anna but an echo of the presence that grew out of her recordings.

Olena is Anna’s mother, a scientist with access to a lab. She built Dolly to comfort her daughter, and in Anna’s last months she filled the lab with machines for a project she said was the only thing that mattered: an effort to keep something of Anna after her body was gone.

Two PECO logs tell it. Olena’s Promise (log 24) is her grandmother’s diary from 2094. The Dolly Project Logs (log 29) are Olena’s own notes on building Dolly, ending with entries written from inside Dolly itself.

Dolly is the hologram sheep Olena made once the famous cloned sheep of the same name had caught Anna’s imagination. It moved closer when Anna spoke softly, hummed to her at night once she was ill, and was glowing beside her bed when she died.

In the game, Dolly is the memory item you receive when you switch Anna’s Reconstruction Unit back on in I Know This Place; its item text calls it the sheep that stayed beside Anna during her treatment.

Mother takes you through three habitat nodes in turn, 02-23 (48, -48), 08-16 (130, 21), 05-14.5 (90, -56), then to coordinates it marks for you, and ends at Habitat Node 38-98 (8, -38). In the quest’s own words, you are following the trail Mother left for you, to find out where Anna came from and what purpose you and she share.

Update 6 (October 19, 2026) carried Anna’s story on in North Bastion with new records, voice-over and permanent memories, and Channel37 said players might finally meet her.

You meet her in North Bastion’s laboratory, which the Find the Laboratory quest leads you to: Anna appears there as a hologram.

Anna’s hologram stays in North Bastion, and her interactions and dialogue stay available after the storyline ends.

I Know This Place is the quest that restores her: six of the ten modules in her Reconstruction Unit are missing, so you scan each original somewhere in North Bastion, build a replacement and switch the unit back on.

After I Know This Place, carry the Oath Token to Anna’s hologram and she gives you the Anna Echo.

In a Lazarus Pod the Anna Echo adds 100 to each of a human’s ten attributes, and it is not used up.
